Palm Sunday
Thursday’s Thoughts from Pastor David
It is the last Thursday before Holy Week!
That can only mean one thing!!!
This Sunday is Palm Sunday!!
This is the Sunday where Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem on a donkey and “high fives” everyone, by slapping his palm against everyone else’s palm.
Thus… Palm Sunday! (Don’t worry about laughing out loud wherever you are! Our world needs a dose of laughter today!)
Let’s talk about peace!
Peace is something everyone wants, yet few seem to find.
What is peace? It can be defined as “tranquility, harmony, or security.” Depending on the situation, it could mean “prosperity” or “well-being.” The word peace is found 361 times in the English Standard Version of the Bible. There are different types of peace, including false peace, inner peace, peace with God and peace with one another.
What kind of peace are you experiencing today?
Within the complexities of life, personality, personal history, stress at work and home, news of school shootings, murder and violence, political divide, international tensions – where do you find your peace?
Is Jesus the first person you turn to in times of trouble or is Jesus more of a last resort?
On this Palm Sunday the people shouted, as Jesus entered Jerusalem, “Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna!”, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
The fact that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey signified that he was entering the gates as a king in “peace.”
Had he ridden in on a horse, he would be signifying he was coming in as a warrior king to overtake, and overthrow by violent means.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace is the very essence of peace as He makes His grand entrance into Jerusalem.
By the way…
Do you know what the word “Jerusalem” means?
“City of Peace…”
How about that!
The Prince of Peace riding into the City of Peace, to bring peace to our broken world.
Yet, He would be tried and killed for such a mission five days later.
Is the “City of Your Heart and Life” a place of Peace?
What do we shout when we Jesus comes riding into our presence?
Do we experience “peace” in His presence?
As followers of Jesus do we bring peace to those we encounter?
As followers of Jesus am I at peace?
Peace be with you!
May the Peace of Christ on Palm Sunday (and every day!) reign in your heart!
Peace out!
Grace and peace,
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
