There She Stands!

It’s the first Thursday
On the first day of the month of July
On the first day of the second half of 2021!

I’ve got red, white and blue on my mind today as the Fourth will be celebrated on Sunday!

My mind started thinking about our great American Flag. So… I wrote this short poem titled, “There She Stands”

There She Stands

In the year of 1776 the experimental journey began
For freedom to which we ran
Freedom from tyranny
Freedom to worship Thee

An emblem made of red, white and blue
There She Stands ever so true
Red for the blood bled, White for the hope of being pure
Blue for our unabashed courage for sure!

Through wars over there
And conflicts right here if you dare
Our eyes always lift aright
To see her standing so high and shining so bright

Some call her Ol’ Glory
To date she has quite the story
Some call her the Flag
Always towering tall and never allowing herself to sag

American Revolution to War between the States
From 1812 to the War on Terror her presence never abates
On Tuesday, nine eleven there she stood
Hovering over her broken and fallen brood

Day and night, through good and bad we stand to honor and salute
For two hundred and forty-five years our commitment is resolute
For us she stands, she never quits
Always soaring above for all to see, she never sits

Championing Freedom and Liberty
Carries quite the responsibility
Cherish and treasure the Stars and Stripes
Through victory and defeat, our tears she wipes

On the Fourth listen to the endless number of bands
Paying tribute to the one who stands
Look! Over there! Can you see her waving?
She’s the one worth living for, worth saving

From the Atlantic beaches to the Pacific sands
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls!
There She Stands!

Grace and Peace,
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
