Lent Day 9 – Paradise delves into the second of Jesus’ “Last Sayings on the Cross” – “Today you will be with me in paradise!”
Punctuation plays a key role in this second “Last Sayings of Jesus on the Cross.”
Pay attention to the “comma!”
The thief on the cross pleads with Jesus, “‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise’” (Luke 23: 42-43)
Jesus is not saying, “I will tell you the truth today, you will be with me in paradise.”
What Jesus is saying is, “I will tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Today! Not sometime down the road. Jesus promises the thief and each of us, when we die, TODAY we will be in paradise with Him!
