Compare
Have you ever thought about the meaning of the word  “Compare.”
Here’s the definition….
com·pare
kəmˈper/
verb
1. estimate, measure, or note the similarity or dissimilarity between.
“individual schools compared their facilities with those of others in the area”

synonyms: contrast, juxtapose, collate, differentiate
“we compared the data sets”

If you didn’t know the exact definition as defined by the dictionary, you most certainly have felt its impact.
When we come out on “top”, comparison can feel great!
When we come out on the “short end of the stick”, comparison can sting worse than a hornet!
Have you dealt with being “compared” to some thing or some one lately?
Me too…
How are your vacation plans “compared” to all your Facebook friends?
How is your car “compared” to everyone else?
How is the shape of your body “compared” to all the models on TV?
How is your fashion “compared” to all those who attended the Royal wedding last Saturday?
How is your spirituality “compared” to mine?
That last question was a little unfair wasn’t it?
And that’s the point!
Comparison in our world is unfair, unjust, unreliable and frankly unreal!
Behind the vacation smiles and from behind the steering wheels we have no idea what kind of financial debt some people have placed themselves in to “have it all.”
No matter the shape of your body or the fashions you wear intended to cover up or show off your physical body, they will never cover up the internal emotional and mental scars some of us have been carrying around for years.
And when it comes to “spirituality”… don’t even get me started.
No one and I mean no one knows fully the spiritual state of another human being.
And here comes the good news…
When we compare ourselves to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit…
There is no comparison!
And that is exactly the point.
And that is exactly the joy!
There is no comparison.
We are fully and completely and undeniably and unconditionally loved and accepted for who we are!
We are no longer held captive to the comparison of who we should be, who we ought to be, or even who we better be.
We just get to be…
You get to be you.
I get to be me.
In the great words of the late Brennan Manning – “Jesus comes to us and says, ‘I have a word for you… I dare you to trust that I love you just the way you are and not as you should be, because you’re never going to be as you should be.’”
God loves me…
God loves you…
There’s no comparison!
“Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong,
They are weak, but He is strong!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me…
For the Bible tells me so…”

Laugh often and Fear not!
