Thursday’s Thoughts from Pastor David
The Chain

When was the last time you went to the circus?
Was it a three ringer?
Barnum and Bailey?
Clowns?
Lions, tigers and bears? Oh my!
Tent with a center pole?Have you ever noticed the elephants?
These beautiful creatures stand so tall, with such pride as their ears flap and their trunks trumpet!
Weighing anywhere from 6,000 to 13,000 pounds, their mere presence dwarfs all those who dare to draw near.

I have always been intensely intrigued by the chain wrapped around just one of their legs.
Compared to its massive size the chain looks rather weak in comparison. The four foot stake driven in to the ground about six to ten feet away from the tree trunk like legs does not look very menacing either.I have always wondered why an animal so big, so massive, so strong, so ginormous doesn’t simply rip the stake right out of the ground and run free.
The reason these beautiful creatures don’t run free from their chain is simple and yet disturbingly profound.
These elephants have been chained to a stake since the day thy were born.
As an infant, the elephant wasn’t strong enough to pull the stake out of the ground.
Thus, in its mind, the elephant believes the possibility of freedom from the stake is an impossibility.
No matter how big, how strong, how massive the elephant may become, the chain and the stake remain larger than life in the mind of the elephant, keeping the elephant chained, enslaved and imprisoned its whole life long…
Sound familiar?
You are an incredible, beautiful, amazingly strong and capable child of God!
And yet…
There is a chain and a stake tethering you, enslaving you, imprisoning you, holding you back from experiencing the joy and the abundant life God has in store for you.
It’s been around for so long, you truly believe there is no other way to live…
Tired of the three ring circus?
I have good news for you.
I know someone who can set you free…
His name is Jesus.
He allowed some ring leaders to stake him to a cross so you wouldn’t have to be.
He knows something about breaking those chains, loosing those fetters and overcoming the stakes to secure freedom.
Call on his name and watch the chains lose their hold as Jesus holds on to you…
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
