Lent Day 15 Last Saying #3 – “Woman, behold your son…”

Every Friday on our Lenten journey we explore on of the seven last sayings of Jesus on the cross.

Last saying #3 comes from John 19. “…but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.” (John 19: 25-27)

Two things stand out:

1. These four women, plus John (the disciple whom Jesus loved) stand by, stick by Jesus all the way to the end. Praise God for people who stand by us through thick and thin. May we be of the same character when we have friends going through difficult times.

2. John is elevated to the status of “brother” with Jesus as John is being asked to take care of Mary, the mother of Jesus. And so John does! We are also elevated to such status when we are “adopted” into the family of God! We are fellow brothers and sister in Christ as we are all children of God!

Amen and Amen!

Grace and peace,

Laugh often and Fear not!

David!

ps – Don’t forget to wish me a Happy Birthday today! March 5, 1963 is the day of my birth! So grateful to be alive and laughing often and fearing not!!
