Can you believe we are in the last thirty-one days of 2017?
Jesus is coming soon! He will be here before we know it!
Preparing for the coming of the Messiah, the Newborn King is one of the great traditions of the Presbyterian Church. It is not much different than preparing for a newborn baby coming into our family and into our home.
Prepare him room…
How fun it is to decorate the nursery and supply the room with the crib, the rocker, the changing table, and of course the stuffed animals.
What kind of room will I prepare for the Newborn King? The next twenty-five days will be chock full of activities – office parties, family gatherings, church services and functions. Where will we carve out the time to make room for Jesus? If we are not intentional about it, those great intentions will be lost in the wave of other activities.
Choose a Name…
When we found out Julie and I were having a baby girl, we had the best time trying to figure out what name would we grace this little girl with. We finally arrived with the name Faith!
The name of the Newborn King is Jesus, but He is also called – Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. What name will He be for you? Do you need an extra dose of “Peace” this Advent Season? Do you need something “Mighty” to happen? Choose a name!
Announcements…
When I was born I weighed in at 9 pounds and 10 ounces. I arrived as a toddler! These days, families send out baby announcements to extended family and friends with all the details of the latest arrival.
What would your announcement say to others about your Newborn King Jesus? Would you marvel at the size of His arms of love? Would you rave about the sound of his gracious voice? Would His eyes of tranquility mesmerize you?
Snuggling…
The most important thing a newborn needs is touch! How fun it is to snuggle and smell the newness of life with a newborn baby. To feel the warmth of this bundle of joy against our chest is one of the best feelings in the world.
How about we do the same with Jesus this Christmas… Hold Him close… Squeeze Him up against your body and smell the richness of his unconditional love, grace and mercy. Is there any sweeter experience…?
I think not.
Laugh Often And Fear Not!
