fear-or-faith
We are halfway through the month of September and that marker just so happens to land on a Thursday!
Which can only mean one thing: It’s time for Thursday’s Thoughts from Pastor David.
The church I am blessed to serve, Mountain View Presbyterian Church (MVPC) is on a 90 day trek through the Bible!
“The Bible in 90 Days” is our rallying cry as we encourage one another to pursue a deeper relationship with the Author of Life, the Lord God Almighty by reading His word, His entire word over the next 90 days!
We started on September 11th and as of yesterday, we are through the first book of the Bible – Genesis!
If you are familiar with the book of Genesis, one of the major characters is Abraham.
There is a multitude of things we can glean from the life of Abraham, but the one which sticks in my mind like peanut butter to the roof of my mouth on a hot, arid, dry desert day is his “faith!”
With the options of Faith or Fear before him every step of the way, Abraham chose “Faith” over “Fear” every time.
I love the way the author of Hebrews puts it:
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
When was the last time you went out to follow God’s lead, “not knowing where you were going?”
In fact, perhaps a better question is, “What kind of shoes are you wearing these days?”
Shoes of concrete? – Stable, Secure, Immovable, Rock hard…
Shoes of running? – Movable, designed to run, made to move to embrace the promises of God, inheritance securing shoes…
What will move us today?
Faith or Fear?
Fear tends to be based on us…
Faith tends to be based on God…
I’m sticking with God today!
How ‘bout you?
Get moving and Go get ‘em!
God’s inheritance and blessing awaits us!

  1. Good Morning David: Fear or Faith. I must admit I have some of each. Fear…I am fearful that I will not last as long as Verna and then she will become a responsibility of our children. I know they are up to it, but I worry that it will infringe upon their normal schedule of raising their family. Faith… I am putting all my faith in God that this will not happen and if I were a Las Vegas bookie, I’d say my chances of God winning is good. As you know I have not participated in the Bible in 90 days. I wish I had the time, but the fear of Verna’s journey wilt Alzheimer’s is overruling. Not only are you blessed to serve MVPC but we are truly blessed to have you as our Pastor. Give our love to Julie, and the children and save lots for YOU. Jerry
