Bellying Up to the Bar
It was 3:00 in the afternoon.
And there I was bellying up to the bar ordering my standard “Gin and Tonic.”
I have never, ever, ever, never been in a bar at 3:00 in the afternoon on a week day.
Yet, there I was saying, “Yes, I would like a lime with that. Is there any other way to drink it?” to the blonde bartender.
Call it chance.
Call it coincidence.
I call it the providence of God.
At 2:53 in the afternoon I was pulling out of the parking lot of my Chiropractor.
As I was leaving I noticed a gentleman pulling into the parking lot who attends my church occasionally. I quickly made a U-turn to offer a quick hello.
He got out of the car.
I got out of the car.
I called out his name.
His response was quick and friendly.
“Wasn’t expecting to meet you here in the parking lot of the bar.”
(The bar is right next to the Chiropractor. How convenient).
I inquired, “What are you up to?”
“I just got off work, my back hurts and I am going in to the bar to have a beer.”
Only one question came to my mind…
“Can I join you?”

What transpired over the next hour was an incredible blessing.
My bar partner talked, shared, shed some tears, laughed, questioned, answered and shared some more.
Glasses empty…
Bill paid…
We made our way out of the bar…
Relationship completely changed…
Deepened…
Stronger…
All because the simple question was asked…
“Can I join you?”
Who can you join today?
Who will God put in your path to join?
Keep your eyes and your options open…
You never know…
You might just find yourself bellying up to the bar!
