One of the greatest needs we have as humans is the need to be accepted.
We offer people the greatest gift when we accept others into the fold.
People offer us the greatest gift when they accept us into the fold.
Chew on that for just a moment…
Okay…done?
This is when life gets messy…
The lengths to which we go to accept people and the lengths to which we go to be accepted by others.
It’s never clean and easy… Which is what makes life so fascinating!

To what limits have we gone or even surpassed in the pursuit of finding open arms and hearts to welcome us, warts and all?
How much of ourselves have we compromised at times to be “part of the group?”
Ruth was a widow (No husband to validate her sense of belonging in society)
Ruth was barren (No children to validate her sense of womanhood)
Ruth was an outsider (She was a Moabite in a land of non-Moabites)
And yet…
And yet…
A community of faith accepted Ruth, the widow
A community of faith accepted Ruth, the barren one
A community of faith accepted Ruth, the outsider
And looked what happened next!
Ruth married Boaz and they then have a son named Obed.
Obed grows up and gets married and has a son named Jesse.
Jesse grows up and gets married and has a son named David (as in KING DAVID!!)
And this pattern keeps repeating itself until, guess who is born?
Jesus!!
Jesus is born
The Savior of the World arrives
The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us
All because
All because…
A community of faith took the unnecessary risk of accepting
A foreign, barren, widow…
Are your arms open wide, for the ready?
You just never know who just might fall into them…
Go ahead…
Take the unnecessary risk…
You never know what amazing work God is waiting to do in your life!
