Some Assembly Required…
Three words that seem so
Innocuous
Innocent…
Inviting
Irresistible
And yet so
Irretrievably irritating!
Let’s look at these three words…
SOME…
How much is some?
Two Double A batteries?
Are there instructions?
How many steps are involved?
How long will it take?
ASSEMBLY…
How many parts can there be in this little box?
What tools will be required outside of a screwdriver?
Why couldn’t it be in a bigger box so that no assembly would be required? (I would be happy to pay the extra money to have it already assembled)
REQUIRED…
Basically this means that the product inside the box is not complete and ready for enjoyment until every piece is assembled. It doesn’t say, “Some Assembly Suggested.”
The mere fact that it says, “Some Assembly Required” makes me want to put it down and look for something else, like maybe a gift card.
SeeingGodAtWorkEveryday…
When it comes to my life and in particular my life with God these three words play a vital role.
SOME…
Just some?
How about “All Assembly Required?”
Then again, how much is “some?”
ASSEMBLY…
Once again my hand raises with the question, “Why can’t I come already assembled?”
What’s missing that needs to be added?
What is the time frame for the assembly?
REQUIRED…
This is the word I loathe the most.
The assembling of my life to make me whole and complete is not an option.
It’s not a suggestion.
The Grand Designer says, “It is required.”
I must admit that there are times when I would rather stay in the box, incomplete, in pieces and neatly packed away. Things tend to get messy when you lay all the parts out on the kitchen table for all to see.
Deep down I know that if I stay in the box then I never live.
I want to live…
I want to experience…
I want to be complete…
I want to be assembled…
I want to live out of the box!
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1. 6 ESV)
