On being connected………….
In our modern iPhone, Galaxy, Samsung, Android, Google Pixel, Twitter, Computer Gaming, Facebook, texting and Instagram driven technological world, we as a people have never communicated more than at any other time in the rest of human history combined.
Just walk around the mall, the Outlets, the Casinos, or even down on The Strip. People’s posture is horrendous as we are bent over at some awkward angle with our hand or hands firmly gripped on our smart phones while checking email, the news, gaming, Twitter, Facebook and every other type of social media.
Communication is at an all-time high!!
Connectivity is at an all-time low…
In fact, studies show the more we “communicate” on our iPhones, Tablets and Computers the less connected we feel to those around us. This drive to be “connected” through all of these devices has led to the opposite conclusion and effect – Isolation.
Due to isolation, clinical depression is on the rise. The physical pains and side effects of loneliness are literally killing people.
We are communicating more and connecting less.
Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15: 5)
I love the word “abide” –  a word rich in meaning to “await,” “remain,” “lodge,” “sojourn,” “dwell,” “continue,” “endure”
In a word “abide” means “to connect.”
Nowhere can we even conjure up the idea that to “abide” would indicate any sense of “isolation.”
Jesus is the vine. We are the branches. We are connected with Jesus. Jesus is connected with us. Living water flows through the veins of the vine, and through the branches producing succulent fruit.
Abiding – connecting, communicating with Jesus. A flowing of out and in, and in and out. A beautiful, living, loving, connected experience of partnership, companionship, intimacy.
Communicating with Christ.
Connecting with Christ.
They go hand in hand in a way that leads not to Isolation but rather “Community!”
