My friend’s only son lives on the other side of the country.
The son is learning a new trade, a budding occupation, a skill, the ropes by being an apprentice in his desired field.
The son left his home state for this new venture several months ago.
Sure the father and the son talk on the phone, just about every day.
Sure they Facetime now and then.
Sure they exchange emails.
Sure they do a lot of things to keep the connection of Father and Son alive and well.
It’s all good!
But not really…
For the father there is no substitute for being in the physical presence of the one and only son.
The distance can only be erased by a ride on a 757 jet, a Hertz rental car ride and a pulling in the driveway…
The father gets out of the car…
The son quickly moves from the couch to the door,
from the door to the porch,
from the porch to the front step,
from the front step to the driveway..
closing the gap.
With bursting anticipation the father spreads his wingspan wide…
With homesick pride the son imitates the father to perfection…
The embrace is thunderous…
The smile from ear to ear is as wide as the Pacific Ocean…
The longing, loving arms of the father and the son wrap around each other like a vice grip…
The moment lasts a long time.
The Father relaxes his grip…
The Father takes a deep breath…
The reality of the moment is too much…
The father is reduced to tears
The son follows his lead with rivers being created on his strong cheekbones
This is the unconditional love of the father for the son
This is the amazing love of the son for the father
My friend tells me this story…
He’s reduced to tears once again as he says,
“I went to let go of the embrace in the driveway…But my son…my son…
He didn’t let go…He didn’t let go”…
SeeingGodatWorkEveryDay…
I love the Son (Jesus)
The Son loves me…
Many times I have gone to let go of His strong, tender, loving embrace
Hear me loud and clear…
He didn’t let go…He didn’t let go…
And He never will…
And that my dear friends…reduces me to tears
“…for God Himself has said, “I will never, never let go of your hand: I will never never forsake you.” (Hebrews 13. 5)
