Eight Days of Laughter – Day 5
For the next four days we will show a benefit to adding daily doses of laughter into your life.
Reason #5 to Laugh…
CHANGES YOUR PERSPECTIVE
Laughter allows us to look at things more optimistically!
The link between laughter and a more positive outlook on life, conflict, and stress cannot be overlooked, underestimated or dismissed.
Laughter stops distressing emotions.
You can’t feel anxious, angry, or sad when you’re laughing. Those darn endorphins keep us feeling good as they are released through laughter. Another major hormone released while cackling like a goose is dopamine.
Dopamine, which serves as a reward for the brain, creates a sense of euphoria, and plays a pivotal role in our motivation to continue the behavior.
Do you like the feeling when you laugh? Dopamine says to the brain, “Keep laughing! I love it!!” This in turn leads to a continued positive outlook because the brain and body are craving the feeling associated with the better outlook.
Laughter helps you relax and recharge.
It reduces stress and increases energy, enabling you to stay focused and accomplish more.
You cannot help but have a better outlook when you have more energy, less stress and are able to stay focused on the tasks at hand.
Laughter shifts perspective, allowing you to see situations in a more realistic, less threatening light. A humorous perspective creates psychological distance, which can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and diffuse conflict.
JACKPOT!! Laughter shifts perspective!
How in the world does that happen? Not really sure, but the reality is, it does!
So many times life and stress can be overwhelming, like drinking from a fire hydrant. Laughter turns down the spigot and allows us to digest the reality before us with a renewed sense of confidence in being able to conquer what lies ahead.
Laughter draws you closer to others, which can have a profound effect on all aspects of your mental and emotional health.
How many times do we feel all alone when the stresses of life seem to be getting the best of us?
Separation leads to Isolation which ultimately leads to Alienation.
So many times I feel completely alienated from the very people who can help me the most when feeling overwhelmed.
Use laughter to draw yourself out of the devastating effects of isolation into a community of helpful people.
Well… there you go!
LAUGHTER CHANGES YOUR PERSPECTIVE!
Feeling overwhelmed, stressed and a little bit frantic?
Did I ever tell you about the time a Priest, a Rabbi and a Pastor walked into a bar…
Let the change of perspective begin…
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
