FLAMEOFTHEHOLYSPIRIT

Thursday’s Thoughts from Pastor David

Good morning June 1st!!

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy’s rich and your ma is good-lookin’
So hush little baby, Don’t you cry…

No crying here on this First Thursday in June!
Although, the only cotton I see is on the shirt I am wearing…

This Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost!
Let’s get the timeline down…

Jesus is crucified and buried
3 days later He is Risen! He is Risen indeed!

Jesus walks around teaching, laughing, healing, praying, cooking and hanging out with the disciples for how many days?
40!

At the end of the 40 days – Jesus ascends into the heavenly kingdom!

Now the disciples once again find themselves alone…
Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, but the disciples are going to have to wait.
For how long?
10 days!!

And then, 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit came rushing in like that of a mighty wind!
On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity arrives and fills the hearts and minds of the disciples and all those who place their lives, their trust, their faith in the Triune God!

And here we are still inhaling the breath of God through the Holy Spirit.

Our theme of the day for this Sunday is “Breathing in the Breath of God.”

What are you breathing in these days?
What are you breathing out these days?
I would like to propose that which you are breathing in will be directly related to what you will be breathing out in your life.

If you are breathing in fear and distrust, your life will be filled with fear and distrust and as you exhale such things you will spread fear and distrust.
So, let me ask again….
What are you breathing in these days?
What are you breathing out these days?

If we are breathing in the Holy Spirit, check out what we will be breathing out…
Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control

That doesn’t sound too bad does it?
Sounds pretty refreshing to me…

See you Sunday at MVPC!
Wear something RED to celebrate the Fire of the Holy Spirit!

Can’t wait to smell your breath!

Grace and peace,
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
